Father Roderick’s foray into new media communications began while podcasting from St. Peter’s Basilica during the death of our beloved John Paul II and the subsequent conclave that elected Pope Benedict XVI. His unique audio recordings and the access granted by his collar provided a special connection to the events that the global press could not provide.
Fr. Roderick founded the Star Quest Production Network with the mission of ‘Leading the Way in Catholic New Media’. He hosts and produces several audio, video and live streaming shows including The Daily Breakfast, The Catholic Insider, This Week in Church, Healthy Catholic, Catholic Minute, The Secrets of Star Wars, The Secrets of Harry Potter, The Secrets of Narnia, The Secrets of the Lord of the Rings and The Secrets of the Pirates of the Caribbean. More than 200,000 SQPN shows are downloaded every month by Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
In 2005, Fr. Roderick helped Vatican Radio establish their podcasts. In 2005 and 2006, SQPN won four Podcast Awards in Ontario, California, including Best General Podcast, Best Religious Podcast and Best Mobile Podcast. In 2007, SQPN won three more Podcast Awards after receiving a whopping eight nominations in religious and secular categories.
In addition to his audio and video productions, Fr. Roderick writes a daily column for the leading Dutch Catholic Newspaper Katholiek Nieuwsblad, and answers faith-related questions on his blog Katholiek Leven (Catholic Life).
Fr. Roderick is regularly sought by the international press and cable news and entertainment shows for his expertise in Catholic New Media and for his opinions on popular topics. He appeared on CNN, EWTN’s Life on the Rock, and did interviews on the Catholic Channel and Relevant Radio. Fr. Roderick played himself on the Dutch RTL reality show, That’ll Teach Them, and his podcast recently appeared in the humorous and popular “Klooster” TV commercial for Appoint Professionals. He also regularly appears on Dutch television in talkshows like De Wereld Draait Door and Pauw en Witteman.
In addition to all his podcasting activities, Fr. Roderick maintains pastoral duties at seven parishes in his hometown, Amersfoort, in the Archdiocese of Utrecht, The Netherlands. He is fluent in several languages: Dutch, French, English, Italian, German and Latin. Father Roderick was also named one of seven leaders in Catholic New Media by Steubenville University in 2007. He gave lectures on Catholics and New Media in Winnipeg (University of Manitoba: St. Paul’s College), Steubenville (Franciscan University of Steubenville) and Rome (Santa Croce University).
