Walking through Audioboo from Mark Rock on Vimeo.
Thanks to Leo Laporte’s MacBreak Weekly podcast, I heard about this great new application for the iPhone, called ‘Audioboo‘. When installed on an iPhone, it allows you to record short, 5 minute long audioclips, and upload them to the Audioboo server, where they become instantly available as a podcast you can subscribe to. Even though the app uses the standard microphone of the iPhone, the sound quality is stellar – much better than what you hear in many existing podcasts.
The most exciting aspect of Audioboo is, of course, that you can now podcast from anywhere, at any time! If you can make a phonecall, you can now also make a podcast. Whether you are walking around in Vatican City, or in the middle of an inspiring retreat: you can now share those experiences with the world. The threshold to podcasting has never been lower!
A few seasoned Catholic media producers have already started to experiment with this service, like Greg and Jennifer from the Catholics Next Door, and Fr. Seraphim Beshoner from ‘Catholic Under the Hood’:
I am still waiting to get my own iPhone a couple of weeks from now, but I’m already looking forward to using Audioboo as well!

Will this possibly replace “conventional” podcasting methods?
Awesome, I don’t subscribe to that podcast any longer due to minimizing the amount of podcasts in my queue, yet this seems like a very cool idea!
What is striking to me is app does not use word “pod.” Are we moving beyond the word “podcasting” and gone back to using word “audio.” Also, perhaps this highlights even more that average person will be recording on the fly rather than just “podcasters.”
Just to let folks know, I’m using the ipod touch to do my audioboos. But you need to have a headset with a microphone to do the recording.
