The other day, one of my Facebook friends suggested that I add bishop Michael Gregory Campbell, the brand-new coadjutor Bishop of Lancaster to my friends list.
As you can imagine, I was pleasantly surprised to find a bishop on Facebook. Within a day, Bishop Campbell accepted my request and when I visited his profile on Facebook, I was even more surprised:
London Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor was listed there too, and what’s more, he even left a message for Bishop Campbell on his Facebook Wall!
And I discovered a third UK Bishop on Facebook: Archbishop Vincent Nichols of Birmingham was also present on Facebook, so I sent both the Cardinal and the Archbishop a request to be able to add them to my list.
It’s great to see that the Catholic Church not only talks about the new possibilities of the Internet, but that it’s leaders also actively use those possibilities!
Do you know of any other Catholic ‘celebrities’ that have a Facebook account? Or did you come across any bishops or cardinals on YouTube or Twitter? Post the links in the comments!
